Wedding Plans Hit By The Recession - Family

With the recession still ongoing, many people are continuing to find things difficult in the current economic climate. One area that has been affected more than most is the wedding market. The costs of arranging a wedding can run into many thousands of pounds and with the finances of many prenuptial couples fragile, concerns regarding wedding plans and budgets have come to the fore. A leading wedding planning website, has run a poll, the results of which confirms the fact that people are increasingly concerned regarding their wedding plans and budgets.

The poll, one of many that this informative wedding website regularly conducts, asked a simple question. "With the recovering economy, are your budgets & plans back on track?" The overwhelming response was that most are still concerned regarding their wedding budget and plans. In fact 65.1% of respondents said that their plans were not back on track and continue to be affected by the economic situation. This gives cause for concern. Although the government may offer comments and describe so called "green shoots" of recovery there seems to be an underlying lack of confidence.

The most essential element of wedding planning is the wedding finance . The concerns that still seem prevalent in our economy has led to a level of uncertainty, which is partly due to the lack of available funding as well as the criteria which the lenders have put into place. This has led many to rethink their wedding plans in some shape or form, whether this be a postponement, a trimmed budget or in some cases cancelling the wedding indefinitely.

On the flip side, although there is concern from the majority, it has to be said that 34.9% of respondents felt that things were looking better and were positive regarding their wedding plans and budgets.

David Cartlidge, Director of said "The poll highlights an interesting divide in opinion on the UK's current economic situation, although the governments fiscal stimulus has had an effect, it seems to be taking time to convert into confidence within the general public at large. Wedding planning, and its associated costs, are a good yard stick and our members have voiced genuine concerns within the results of this poll."
